[ it felt wrong to drop coach's gift and run, and only in part because she's terrifying and running from her just felt like delaying the inevitable.
so, around noon, there'll be a short knock on the door.
he's still wearing the incredibly awful christmas hat, a gift bag hanging from his hands. (don't tell him there's a little flour on his shirt... he knows...) ]
[ having spent most of her morning delivering presents, momokan's not really expecting any visitors--she answers the door with her hair pulled up in a ponytail, dressed casually, and opens her mouth to greet miyuki.
until she gets a good look at him. ] What is on your head?
[ she's more teasing than mean about it, but still. jesus christ. ]
[ ah... she looks like a normal person... that shouldn't be a surprise, but it still kind of his. his eyes tip up, and he grins.
there are dramatic answers to that, but he's not discussing the wreck he's made of his relationship with nori with her on a nice morning like this. ] The best Christmas hat ever made, of course, Coach.
[ and now he lifts the sparkly blue snowflake-print gift bag he's painstakingly wrapped so that the red tissue paper looks nice instead of just stuffed in there. inside are two things: on top is a hat, and below it, folded, is a jersey, plain-backed like any coach's would be. and a card, which he bullied the entire team into signing.
he's left a note of his own inside--Coach, you haven't been here long but I already can't picture practice without you. Let's make next year a success, too. Merry Christmas, Kazuya Miyuki. ]
[ momokan scoffs at his hat answer, an aborted ha! laugh, but she's willing to hear him out no matter what weird thing he's wearing on his head. in her short time here, momokan's come to respect miyuki as a player quite a bit, questionable fashion choices and all, and it's pretty obvious that the gift surprises her, eyebrows lifted as she pulls the bag up. ]
Seriously? [ it warms her heart--reminds her of home a little, and she takes out the card, reading it carefully, unable to keep a smile from spreading on her face. these kids are a lot like her boys at home, and the effort put in to bring her in... well, maybe a small part of her had been a little worried they wouldn't.
pulling out the jersey and hat gets a genuine look of surprise, though, and momokan holds the jersey out and looks at the logo. it's the same warm feeling she got receiving her coach's jersey at nishiura, after what felt like years and years of hard work. it's the kind of feeling that only baseball can really give--the belonging, the feeling of a team.
momokan folds the jersey. it's painstaking, careful, loving hands, and then turns her attention back to the teenager on her doorstep. the smile on her face widens and she stands on her tiptoes to hooks an arm around his neck and pull him down with a- ] C'mere, you-- [ and promptly puts her other hand on that stupid hat to give him the noogie of a lifetime. ] Sneaking up on me like that! How long have you been planning something like that, huh?
[ he pulls a face, a little nervous, and nods. ] Yeah, seriously, uh, we guessed on the size, so if it's wrong, just tell me--ah, Coach!
[ instinct takes over first, and he goes still, but that probably just makes it easier on her. he groans, face screwing up. ] I dunno, like a couple weeks?
[ you've only been around for a month and a half, coach... ] We're not--a school team, so I figured we should do something so it feels official, right?
[The team may be getting something for Momokan together, but there's no reason Mihashi can't get something extra for her as well. Sent to her doorstep is a large, fairly heavy gift bag. Inside?
It's a net full of oranges. Also tucked inside is a a red, fleece scarf, and a card reading:]
"Merry Christmas thank you for everything coach -Mihashi"
[ Tokiya doesn't deliver presents in person to people he doesn't know, so she'll have to contend with just a delivery.
There's a rather small box, but inside is a watch with built-in heart rate measurements as well as a pedometer and other things. The note attached to it only says 'Merry Christmas' in a fluid, purple font. ]
[Toujou's honestly really touched at the bag? He's found out that all the team has gotten them and it feels like he's part of something in a kind of new way.
And of course, present or not, he wanted to get their wonderful coach something!
Inside the green and red wrapped package is a really cute dress, actually? He knows she's a tomboy and the dress kind of plays to that-- it's a sporty type but would honestly suit her shape and how she carries herself better than something superglam or too cutesy.
The attached note reads:] Merry Christmas, coach! I don't know if you like to dress up or even get the opportunity to? But this dress really reminded me of you. But if you hate it it's okay to tell me, I'll get you something else! I look forward to playing with you more next year! Hideki Toujou
[thispresent needs no wrapping; it already has a small, red bow wound around it. tucked under the ribbon of the bow, is a small piece of cardboard--a decorative letter for the holidays.] Happy holidays! I hope you have a wonderful time with your roommates and friends, and I wish you all the best for the new year to come.
